Genderqueer Persuasive Essay Topics

Genderqueer Persuasive Essay TopicsThe first rule to consider when writing a persuasive essay is to choose genderqueer persuasive essay topics. Genderqueer people are people who identify as neither male nor female, but as intersex or transgender. Because these people have more in common with each other than with the binary gender binary, the use of genderqueer persuasive essay topics will be less confusing for the reader.Transgender people can also be persuasive essay topics. This includes both biological men and women who identify as transgender and biological men and women who identify as trans. Transgendered people, if they are part of the binary gender system, should not be the topic of the essay. Transgender people should be discussed by themselves and as an important component of their lives, however.Another persuasive essay topic that can be used for genderqueer people is bisexuality. Many people, especially young adults, still don't understand the concept of same-sex attracti on. Therefore, using the concept of bisexuality can help clarify the point. It can also be used to show that not all cisgender people are simply asexual. Bisexuality is a sexual orientation that can be experienced by both men and women, although it may be more common in women. If this is the case, then it would be appropriate to state that some cisgender people are experiencing same-sex attraction. Some transgender people are intersex and some trans men and women are intersex. Intersex people often identify as transgender, however, so using the concept of intersex can also be a positive. However, the key idea is to use it in combination with the concepts of transgender and intersex to create a persuasive essay topic. It can also be useful to state that somecisgender people are gay. This will be used as a way to contrast that with the experiences of the people on either side of the trans/gay/lesbian divide. It can also be used to say that there are transgender men and women who are gay or lesbian. This is considered controversial and may be frowned upon in some circles, but it is necessary to state that some transgender people identify as gay or lesbian. Finally, it is helpful to note that some trans men and women are straight. This contrasts with the views of some cisgender men and women, who might identify as gay or lesbian and some trans men and women who are straight. This is a useful and accurate point to make in order to create a convincing argument against the idea that gay and lesbian cisgender people have a privileged position over trans or transgendered people. To summarize, using genderqueer persuasive essay topics can be helpful. By using the concepts of transgender and intersex, you can add your voice to the different communities that are currently struggling to make sense of their identities.

Multiracial Students - 1044 Words

Multiracial Students At first glance, freshman Angela Corbett’s room might seem a bit bewildering. On one wall sits a Black Panthers poster, on the other, a Nicaraguan flag, and glimpsing around, one might even see a stuffed leprechaun. Definition and Discussion of Middle English

Middle English was the language spoken in England from about 1100 to 1500. Five major  dialects of Middle English have been identified (Northern, East Midlands, West Midlands, Southern, and Kentish), but the research of Angus McIntosh and others... supports the claim that this period of the language was rich in dialect diversity (Barbara A. Fennell, A History of English: A Sociolinguistic Approach, 2001). Major literary works written in Middle English include Havelok the Dane,  Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,  Piers Plowman, and  Geoffrey  Chaucers Canterbury Tales. The form of Middle English thats most familiar to modern readers is the London dialect, which was the dialect of Chaucer and the basis of what would eventually become standard English. Examples and Observations Chaucers Canterbury TalesWhan that Aprill, with his shoures sooteThe droghte of March hath perced to the rooteAnd bathed every veyne in swich licour,Of which vertu engendred is the flour...[When the sweet showers of April have piercedThe drought of March, and pierced it to the rootAnd every vein is bathed in that moistureWhose quickening force will engender the flower...](Geoffrey Chaucer, General Prologue to The Canterbury Tales, late 14th century. Translation by David Wright. Oxford University Press, 2008)Many Middle EnglishesMiddle English varied enormously over time and by region; Angus McIntosh notes that there are over a thousand dialectically differentiated varieties of Middle English. Indeed,  some scholars go so far as to say that Middle English is not... a language at all but rather something of a scholarly fiction, an amalgam of forms and sounds, writers and manuscripts, famous works and little-known ephemera. This is a little extreme, but certainly prior to the later fo urteenth century Middle English was primarily a spoken rather than a written language, and did not have official administrative functions in either a secular or religious context. This has resulted in a critical tendency to place English at the bottom of the linguistic hierarchy of medieval England, with Latin and French as the dominant languages of discourse, instead of seeing the symbiotic relationship between English, French, and Latin...By the fifteenth century Middle English was extensively used in the written documentation of business, civic government, Parliament, and the royal household.(Rachel E. Moss,  Fatherhood and Its Representations in Middle English Texts. D.S. Brewer, 2013)The Vocabulary of Middle English- In 1066, William the Conqueror led the Norman invasion of England, marking the beginning of the  Middle English  period. This invasion brought a  major influence  to English from Latin and French. As is often the case with invasions, the conquerors domina ted the major political and economic life in England. While this invasion had some influence on English grammar, the most powerful impact was on vocabulary.(Evelyn Rothstein and Andrew S. Rothstein,  English Grammar Instruction That Works!  Corwin, 2009)- The core vocabulary of [Middle] English comprised the monosyllabic words for basic concepts,  bodily functions, and body parts inherited from Old English and shared with the other Germanic languages. These words include: God,  man, tin, iron, life, death, limb, nose, ear, foot, mother, father, brother, earth, sea, horse, cow, lamb.Words from French are often polysyllabic terms for the  institutions of the Conquest (church, administration, law), for things imported with the Conquest (castles, courts, prisons), and terms of high culture and social status (cuisine, fashion, literature, art, decoration).(Seth Lerer,  Inventing English: A Portable History of the Language. Columbia University Press, 2007)French Influence on M iddle English- From 1150 to 1500 the language is known as Middle English. During this period the inflections, which had begun to break down during the end of the Old English period, become greatly reduced...By making English the language mainly of uneducated people, the Norman Conquest [in 1066] made it easier for grammatical changes to go forward unchecked.French influence is much more direct and observable upon the vocabulary. Where two languages exist side by side for a long time and the relations between the people speaking them are as intimate as they were in England, a considerable transference of words from one language to the other is inevitable...When we study the French words appearing in English before 1250, roughly 900 in number, we find that many of them were such as the lower classes would become familiar with through contact with a French-speaking nobility: (baron, noble, dame, servant, messenger, feast, minstrel, juggler, largess)... In the period after 1250,... the upper classes carried over into English an astonishing number of common French words. In changing from French to English, they transferred much of their governmental and administrative vocabulary, their ecclesiastical, legal, and military terms, their familiar words of fashion, food, and social life, the vocabulary of art, learning, and medicine.(A. C. Baugh and T. Cable, A History of the English Language. Prentice-Hall, 1978)- French continued to occupy a prestigious place in English society, especially the Central French dialect spoken in Paris. This prompted an increase in the numbers of French words borrowed, especially those relating to French society and culture. As a  consequence, English words concerned with scholarship, fashion, the arts, and food--such as college, robe, verse, beef--are often drawn from French (even if their ultimate origins lie in Latin). The higher status of French in this [late Middle English] period continues to influence the associations of pairs of synonyms in Modern English, such as begin-commence, look-regard, stench-odour. In each of these pairs, the French borrowing is of a higher register than the word inherited from Old English.(Simon Horobin,  How English Became English. Oxford University Press, 2016)A Fuzzy Boundary[T]he transition from Middle to early modern English is above all the period of the elaboration of the English language. Between the late 14th and 16th centuries, the English language began increasingly to take on more functions. These changes in function had, it is argued here, a major effect on the form of English: so major, indeed, that the old distinction between Middle and modern retains considerable validity, although the boundary between these two linguistic epochs was obviously a fuzzy one.(Jeremy J. Smith, From Middle to Early Modern English. The Oxford History of English, ed. by Lynda Mugglestone. Racial Profiling And The Civil Rights Movement - 2959 Words

For centuries, there have been ongoing cases of racism and discrimination against blacks in America, not only in the workplace, but also in the criminal justice system, the government, housing, and countless other establishments. One cannot describe America without slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, and other racially motivated movements. Race (and racism, unfortunately) is what makes America, America. For this essay, I will be exploring the question: Is there still a racial issue in America, predominantly, against blacks? Also, I will be exploring if stereotypes are related to racial profiling, if the media affects racism, and if racism is still present in the 21st century, in particularly, since President Barack Obama got elected as the United States first black president in 2008. This topic’s inspiration came about after reading Sojourner Truth’s speech â€Å"Ain’t I a Woman?† and after watching the famous, or at times, infamous Fox News program, Bill O’Riley. On this particular program, O’Riley and Martin Luther King III were discussing the situation in Ferguson, Missouri after the police officer that had shot and killed Michael Brown did not get charged with murder. O’Riley stated that blacks should ‘sit down’ and wear â€Å"Don’t Get Pregnant at 14† t-shirts in order for black relations/issues to get better. This topic is relevant because, as stated before, race and racism is what makes America and it is something that needs to be changed for us, as a country, to move forwardShow MoreRelatedRacial Profiling And The Civil Rights Movement1065 Words   |  5 PagesWhen thinking about racism, it feels like it is a thing of the past, but it’s not. The growth stage in the product life cycle will usually involve a rapid growth in sales. Consumer’s awareness of Apple’s iPod increases during the holiday season it was on just about everyone’s wish list. Since the first iPod hit the market in 2001, Apple has invested in new product features and has developed the next generation of iPods. Before the introduction of the new generation iPods, Apple decreased the price of the original iPod pre holiday season. By doing, this Apple made an iPod available to suit everyone’s budget. The maturity stage in the product life cycle usually marks the turning point for a product. Sales will decrease during this stage of the cycle. Apple has sold over 140 million iPods. The modifications that Apple continues to add to the iPod line should continue to boost the demand for this product. The introduction of the iPod touch helped to support demand for this product. Sales from Apple’s iPod contributed 33% to this record earnings profit. When iPod was first launched, it was geared towards young adults ages 12 to 25. Consumers today are media savvy and with a click of a mouse, they are able to obtain product information, and reviews be it good or bad in seconds. A few things could lead to further product decline in the market place. New competitors enter the market placed all the time and usually with a comparable product at a lower cost. There have been tough laws placed on internet downloads for MP3 players like the iPod, these laws have had an effect on iPod + iTunes. Another factor is today’s economy, consumers are watching their money, they are comparison shopping and Apple’s iPod high price could be the deciding factor on their purchase. Apple has created a popular product, as well as a strong product awareness marketing strategy, which gives them the advantage over competitors. The company has been successful thus far with branding strategies, marketing, and product development. Apple will need to continue to using the right media outlets with current and new products. Life Cycle Management – Page 5 To help decrease product decline Apple will need to readjust some of their marketing strategies to meet the budget minded consumers in today’s economy. As well, as continue to improve public relations and image. The company will also need to gain and keep the competitive edge by continuing to create new innovative features, which will differentiate the iPod from the competitor’s product. For example if Apple were to create a cordless earpiece for the iPod line using new technology, they would be opening up a completely new market. Overall, Apple’s iPod has become a must have and a mainstay to many consumers. As long as the company is able to continue to stay on top of the competitive market, the iPod will be around for a while.

Free Essays on Seeds Of Nationalism In Colonial Dutch East Indies

I’d like to start this paper by saying that I loved This Earth of Mankind, both for the story line and for the history lessons it contained. I now own the rest of the quartet and am half way through Child of All Nation. This Earth of Mankind addressed the struggle between the Javan native with oppressive colonial rule as well as the search for a new national identity by educated Javans. I thought that Pramoedya was successful in presenting the interrelated themes of social, cultural, and political life in the Dutch East Indies. He described the struggles of two different types of Native Javanese. Minke’s struggle was against himself and integration into, and identification with colonial civilization. Nyai’s struggle the brutalizing effects of Western civilization in her life. In the story the two struggles come together and both Minke and Nyai challenge the inhumanity of colonial justice. The introduction of modernity was having a profound effect in the Dutch East Indies at the time of Minke’s story. This modernity manifested itself through advanced learning, science, and technological advances. Minke considered his opportunity to experience modern learning and science a blessing whose beauty was beyond description. He was the only Native in the Dutch High School (H.B.S.) in Surabaya. Minke’s life was put on a path other than those of his fellow natives through this science and learning he had been taught at school. He knew that this made him different from his own people, the Javanese. Minke marveled at the wonders of science that he saw in his life all around him. Resource Development vs Conservation In Alaska Term Paper

Resource Development vs Conservation In Alaska - Term Paper Example Mining industry in Alaska is wide, which includes exploration, mine development, mineral development, and mineral production. Some of the notable minerals mined and produced in the state include zinc, lead, gold, silver, coal, as well as construction materials such as sand, gravel, and rock (Alaska Miners 1). A quick glance into the 2007 statistics of how mining industry contributed to the economy, it becomes clear that mining plays great role to economy of Alaska. For instance, during the period, about 3,500 direct mining jobs were created in Alaska, in addition to another 5,500 direct and indirect jobs (Alaska Miners 1). In terms of royalties generated from the mining activities, an estimated $340 million in direct and indirect payroll was realized. Out of this sum, $14 million went to the local government revenue through property taxes and payments of taxes; $175 million went to state government revenue, while another $170 million of payments went to Alaska Native Corporation (Ala ska Miners 1). In summary, what these figures indicate is that, mining industry is today one of the primary economic sources for the development and prosperity of Alaska. Nevertheless, in this midst, there have been concerns of mining activities to the social, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects of the communities in which mining takes place. This is particularly of great concern when mega-projects of mining are permitted to be carried in the state whereby, the costs associated with the project may outweigh its benefits. Alaska State’s issues are intricately connected to the natural resources, which for the last fifty years have dominated the economy and politics of the state (Kimura 191). At the same time, it has been observed that these debates are likely to continue into the future and the only likely changes that may be witnessed constitute resources that will fulcrum the future debates, the composition of coalitions that are established to promote and oppose re source development, and the complexity and touch of the issues at hand. Furthermore, debates on these issues are likely to be affected by critical elements of global market forces, conservation concerns, policy directives and judicial decisions, which in turn will affect the decisions associated with developing resources in the state. Chuitna Coal Mining Project in Cook Inlet A proposal has been made to the state of Alaska and the federal government of USA to permit PacRim LP Company to construct Chuitna Coal Project, which is a coal strip mine in Beluga Fields located near Chuitna River (Environmental Protection Agency 3). How do Hardy and Steinbeck portray loneliness in The Withered Arm :: English Literature

How do Hardy and Steinbeck portray loneliness in 'The Withered Arm' and 'Of Mice and Men'? Thomas Hardy, author of 'The Withered Arm' and John Steinbeck, author of 'Of Mice and Men both portray the common theme of loneliness in each of these novels. For example, in 'The Withered Arm', Rhoda is judged for the cause of her loneliness, such as when it says 'She knew that she had been slyly called a witch since her fall', as are Curley and Curley's wife like when Candy refers to Curley's wife as a tart. Both show signs of discrimination be it due to race, sex class or disfigurement. Also, both mainly revolve around a friendship-Lennie and George in 'Of Mice and Men' and Gertrude and Rhoda in 'The Withered Arm'. 'The Withered Arm' also conveys many other themes; a lot of these are common to 'Of Mice and Men'. Similarities in these themes include the unhappy marriages suffered which could also link into the loneliness theme. Curley and Curley's wife in 'Of Mice and Men' have an unhappy marriage as do Farmer Lodge and Gertrude in 'The Withered Arm' though in 'Of Mice and Men', neither try to resolve the situation whereas in 'The Withered Arm', it is Gertrude's main concern to find a cure for her arm so that her husband will love her again. However, we know that this won't happen as there have been too many bad things happen for everything to turn out happily. 'Of Mice and Men' also shows strong signs of this inevitability. We hear from George about the many mice that Lennie has killed and how things always go wrong due to the fact that he does not know his own strength. After crushing Curley's hand and killing the puppy, we know that it is only a matter of time before Lennie kills a person. We also know their 'American dream' of owning a ranch will not come true as, fairly near the beginning, George says 'Nuts' showing that he did not believe in it from the start. 'The Withered Arm' was set in Hardy's home town of Dorset though he has used fictional names for parts of Dorset such as Holmstoke, Casterbridge, Egdon Heath and Wessex. This in itself is a rural, quite isolated setting as is the ranch in 'Of Mice and Men' which is situated near Soledad in California which is also the author's-Steinbeck's-home town. The isolation of these settings is used to show the isolation of the characters within them. This technique of using the setting as a reference to other points of the story is also used in the settings themselves.

Euthanasia and Early 20th Century

Life is precious and shouldn't be taken for granted. A high percentage of people living in America believe that the taking of someone's life is rather normal in certain ways. Euthanasia is illegal in most of the world, however is permissible in the Netherlands and also in Colombia. In the United States of America, euthanasia is legal only in the state of Oregon. Rendering to a May 2004 Gallup Poll, 53% of all Americans think that euthanasia is ethically acceptable, while 41 % believe it is wrong. During the time of the early 20th century, groups formed supporting uthanasia, and mainly were located in England and America.Throughout World War II, the Nazis in Germany had their own program assisting euthanasia. They assisted people with euthanasia who weren't worthy and who were not in good physical shape enough to live on. They were comprised of primarily children and older people. Euthanasia has its pros and cons, and obviously has its reasons. You're probably wondering, what is eutha nasia? Euthanasia comes from the Greek language and means â€Å"good death†, and is basically a thought of â€Å"mercy killing†. Euthanasia can be divided in to two categories. Two Main Types of Euthanasia There are two types of Euthanasia, active and passive euthanasia. Active euthanasia is an ending of one's life, mainly done by a physician, usually by lethal drug injections. On the other hand, passive euthanasia is when someone stops a patient from receiving his/her medical treatments which eventually causes that person to die. As we can see, euthanasia is related to death in either case. Euthanasia is mainly used at hospitals, where people are in very bad condition, especially individuals who are in comas. There are even times when Euthanasia is practiced by turning off the ife support machines, or not providing enough food and/or water to the patient. In addition, there are cases where prescribed medications like antibiotic, morphine, etc. , are given to patients wh ich can lead to a patient's death. Performing the action of euthanasia, passive or active, is a big problem that needs to be addressed by the government. The main problem lies with the decision maker in determining the sick patient's future. If the decision maker thinks that the patient is suffering exceedingly, he/she will perform the act of euthanasia. However, if the patient is not suffering, the erformer will not proceed to his/her prescribed actions. It's important to note that today, machines, medicines and other technology have saved millions of lives, therefore, making euthanasia a more and widely discussed and controversial matter throughout the world. Sometimes euthanasia can be beneficial when a person is in critical condition and is too sick to benefit from life.It could also be a way to dismiss extreme pain. However, Euthanasia can have a negative aspect. Euthanasia can debase human life or a monetary reason to save loads of money rather than pending it on life support m achines. In conclusion these are the basic pros and cons ot euthanasia. The pros and cons ot the supporting evidence will be discussed in detail below to be understood in its supposed manner. Pros and Reasons Supporting Euthanasia There are many pros for supporting Euthanasia. One would be to help remove extreme suffering from a terminally sick person.Secondly, it another way for ending tremendously high medical bills, knowing that a patient is not going to be cured or knowing that a patient will not live due to the suffering that's being experienced. Lastly, euthanasia can be beneficial when used on a person who has been in a coma for a while to help family members or close friends overcome any thoughts or feelings that they might have towards the person in the coma. Cons and Reasons Opposing Euthanasia There are also negative aspects for supporting Euthanasia.A person shouldn't be killed with the use of euthanasia because it is compared to â€Å"murder†. Secondly, Euthanasi a is another way to stop the high costs of medical bills. This type of thinking is immoral. Lastly, Euthanasia can be influenced by the sick patient's wealth and his/her personal belongings, i. . , acquiring wealth, property, inheritance, etc. As we can see from the above pros and cons mentioned above, the action of Euthanasia is rather opinionated. Some people side with euthanasia while others criticize and oppose it.There seems to be no really right or wrong side, but more of a sense of morals involved. Euthanasia is a large topic and can interfere in many people's lives, and can even interfere in one's religion, which is a whole separate topic. The following will show the thoughts about Euthanasia in both Christianity and Islam. The Christian religion has several beliefs on Euthanasia. One aspect deals with life which concerns the giving and life and the taking away of life is created by God and God only, and therefore people's lives should not be determined by human choice. They also believe that no human being should have the right to take the life from another for any reason possible. The Islamic religion is quite similar to the Christian religion on this topic. In the Islamic religion, Allah SWT once said in the Quran, â€Å"Do not take the life, which Allah made sacred, other than in the course of justice. † The Prophet, PBUH, said: â€Å"Amongst the nations before you there was a man ho got a wound, and growing impatient (due to the pain), he took a knife and cut his hand with it and the blood did not stop till he died.Allah said, ‘My slave hurried to bring death upon himself so I have forbidden him (to enter) Paradise. † Sahih Bukhari. Therefore, a person who takes one's own life away will not enter Paradise. It's not up to individuals to make the determination on when life should end; it only belongs to Carmelite Spirituality and the e 30 May 2 Practice ot Mental Prayer As we can see in the figure above, a very ill patient, Faye, lying down in bed, with n illness which caused her to be both paralyzed and speechless. Faye cannot move any part of her body and cannot communicate with anyone, as well.Faye and her family collaborated together and have decided to use active euthanasia, by the means of using lethal drug injections. In this situation, Faye has agreed to the injections because she feels that she will not gain anything from life due to her terminal conditions. Euthanasia for Faye was an upright choice because it provided an easy death for her and avoided a lot of pain and suffering that she was experiencing. As for Faye's family, it saved them a large debt that included life upport, which would have kept her alive throughout her miserable future.

The Concept Of Power May Always Be Debatable - 1119 Words

The concept of power may always be debatable. What exactly makes someone or something powerful? French Philosopher, Michel Foucault builds off of Jeremy Bentham’s idea of the panopticon in his writing of Panopticism. He develops the social theory â€Å"Panopticism.† Through Foucault’s fascination with the panopticon, he demonstrates the impact constant surveillance has, not just in prisons, but also in society as a whole. The panopticon is a type of institutional building introduced by Jeremy Bentham. To gain a mental picture of the design of the panopticon, imagine a circular building with a tower in the very center. This tower can be referred to as an inspection house. The purpose of this tower is solely for round-the-clock surveillance of inmates, ensuring they can always be seen. Observers are able to see all individual cells to monitor behavior at all times. The catch is that the prisoners are never able to tell when they are being watched. They are also una ble to communicate with fellow prisoners as the sidewalls cut off that possibility of communication. Bentham came up with the principle that power should be visible and unverifiable. â€Å"He is seen, but he does not see; he is the object of information, never the subject in communication† (264). The prisoners are able to see the tower but have no way of knowing from where they are being observed. This well thought-out design of the panopticon maximizes efficiency and ensures control. Foucault explains that seeingShow MoreRelatedThe Pros and Cons of A Market Economy. Censorship Research Paper - 4391 Words

War on Censorship After being assigned a school project, a young high school student walks into the library with plans on researching about his topic before starting. It’s a biology project about the mating rituals of animals, which was a topic that struck his interest. So he boots up the computer, signs in, and starts surfing the web and different search engines for his topic. Every site he clicks on, however, has been blocked. Anything having to do with mating and breeding has been censored by the library as inappropriate material. What if this high school student doesn’t have internet at home? Being unable to look up his material at the library is sure to hinder his research. This would be a very common story if web censorship in the†¦show more content†¦Many protested because it violated the freedom of speech of the adults online and it was rejected by the Supreme Court in 1997 since it was a restriction on the First Amendment (Gottfried). And there’ s always the issue of what should be filtered and what shouldn’t. What one considers lewd or hateful material, another might laugh at. The definition of inappropriate varies from person to person, community to community, meaning there’s no national meaning to the word that applies to everyone. Is it fair to block something because a few people find it insulting? In Hillsborough High School, this very issue was brought up only it was over the school newspaper not the internet. The principal of the school pulled an article from the newspaper detailing the school’s achievement gap over the years strictly because it might harm the students’ self-esteem (Stein). Was that material appropriate to block just because a few students would find the information hurtful? Censorship is all based on opinions that not everyone might have so it isn’t fair to block everything for the fear of insulting a few. There are, however, some bad things on the internet that a ren’t only dangerous for minors, but for everyone else as well. With the rise of the internet has come the rise of violent hate crimes. S # 8220 ; Everyday Use # 8221 ; Essay, Research Paper Love and Acceptance Tillie Olsen? s I Stand Here Ironing, and Alice Walker? s Everyday Use, both address the issue of a female parent? s guilt over how her kids turn out. Both female parents blamed themselves for their girl? s jobs. While I Stand Here Ironing is evidently about the mousey girl, in Everyday Use this is camouflaged by the fact most of the action and duologue involves the female parent and older sister Dee. Neither does the female parent in Everyday Use say outright that she feels guilty, but we catch a glance of it when Dee is seeking really hard to claim the handmade comforters. The female parent says she did something she had neer done before, # 8220 ; hugged Maggie to me, # 8221 ; so took the comforters from Dee and gave them to Maggie. The female parent? s neighbor even tells her she should # 8220 ; smiling at Emily more when you look at her. # 8221 ; Again towards the terminal of the narrative Emily? s female parent admits # 8220 ; my wisdom came excessively late. # 8221 ; The female parents unwittingly gave Emily and Maggie 2nd best. Both female parents compare their two girls to each other. In Everyday Use the female parent tells us that # 8220 ; Dee is lighter than Maggie, with nicer hair and a Fuller figure. # 8221 ; She Fahning -2-speaks of the fire that burned and scarred Maggie. She tells us how Maggie is non bright, how she shuffles when she walks. Comparing her with Dee whose pess vwere ever neat-looking, as if God himself had shaped them. # 8221 ; We besides learn of Dee? s # 8220 ; manner # 8221 ; and the manner she awes the other misss at school with it. The female parent in I Stand Here Ironing speaks of Susan, # 8220 ; speedy and articulate and buttocks ured, everything in visual aspect and mode Emily was not.† Emily â€Å"thin and dark and foreign-looking at a clip when every small miss was supposed to look or believe she should look a chubby blonde reproduction of Shirley Temple.† Like Dee, Emily had a physical restriction besides. Hers was asthma. Both Emily and Maggie show resentment towards their sisters. The sisters who God rewarded with good expressions and poise. Emily? s female parent points out the # 8220 ; toxicant feeling # 8221 ; between the sisters, feelings she contributed to by her inability to equilibrate the # 8220 ; injuries and needs # 8221 ; of the two. In Everyday Use we see Maggie # 8220 ; eying her sister with a mixture of enviousness and awe. She thinks her sister has held life ever in the thenar of one manus, that # 8220 ; no # 8221 ; is a word the universe would neer state to her. # 8221 ; Maggie? s female parent seems to hold reinforced this by being unable to state no to Dee besides. This is what makes the point in the narrative when she eventually does state no ( sing the comforters ) such an of import minute in Maggie? s life. The attitude of the female parents towards the polished girls boundary lines on disdain. I believe this is more apparent in Everyday Use, demonstrated by the dream of the Television show. Besides the description of Dee reading to them, # 8220 ; burned us with a batch of cognition we Fahning -3-didn? t needfully necessitate to cognize, # 8221 ; and once more when she shoved # 8220 ; us off # 8230 ; like dimwits. # 8221 ; It? s besides pointed out that Dee and Susan are egoistic and selfish while Maggie and Emily are caring and giving. I think in the terminal both of the female parents realize their girls are okay the manner they are. They come to accept their girls restrictions and care for their quiet gifts. Not everyone can be polished and successful in secular ways. Possibly that? s why Maggie was smiling in the terminal, her female parent eventually accepted her as is.

The Future of Long-Term Care Systems free essay sample

An examination of the problems that future medical care systems will face and possible solutions. This paper looks at the effect that Baby Boomers will have on nursing homes and the future of long-term care. The author investigates the current inefficiencies and inadequacies of medical care services and the problems of adaptation that it may face in the future. Long-term care has been on the governments back-burner since its institutionalization. The Medicare and Medicaid systems have only proven to be inadequate coverage while at the same time costs of services have been increasing. The long-term care system is also very inefficient and cannot effectively coordinate services (Evashwick 2001). The biggest problem with long-term care is the publics unwillingness to take an active role and change the system. There will be major changes take place when the next generation enters the long-term care system. Kobner (2001) had stated it correctly when saying that tomorrows elderly population is going to be our new seniors. Advances in Research on Instruction essays

Advances in Research on Instruction essays After reading this article I decided that I would keep this and refer to it every time I felt that I was not reaching my students. I found it to be very helpful. I think that as we get older, we forget how children learn. We might even forget how we ourselves learn material. Everything comes so natural to us and we forget that we go through many different processes in order to understand new material. I thought back to some of the teachers I have had and I realized that the teachers whom I learned the most from followed the guidelines set forth in the article. With this, I found some very important key components to teaching material to children. They are presenting new information in small steps with cognitive strategies and lots of practice and review, providing help for student processing, and, helping students organize their knowledge, Presenting information in small steps seems so common sense; yet, people forget how crucial it is. All people remember information better when it is split into chunks and practiced before moving one to something else. For example, I feel that one of the reasons that some children dont like math is because they were not given enough time to understand the basic foundations. More than likely, they were taught a lesson, did the homework wrong, handed the homework in and before they even got their homework back, were taught a new lesson. The cycle would start all over again because the student had to understand the last lesson before they could do the next. Teaching in small steps will help the student and the teacher. The students gain a better understanding bigger, more complex information and the teacher can assess each student before moving on. This way the teacher can see exactly what step the child didnt process and re-teach it before its too late and the child is left behind. Helping students process information is just a ...
